Five-yearly continuation

Operator licence continuations due

What the continuation date means

A licence stays in force as long as the holder continues it every five years and keeps to its terms. For a goods licence the £401 continuation fee is due before the end of the month before the continuation date: for a date of 31 July, by 30 June. Standard and restricted PSV licences have no continuation fee, but the details must still be confirmed.

If the fee is not paid in time, the licence ends automatically. Late payment is accepted only in exceptional circumstances. When a licence is continued, the next DVSA file shows a date five years later, and it leaves these lists.

The continuation date is not an expiry date, and an upcoming date says nothing about the operator.
