Continuation date and fee checker

Enter a licence number to see its continuation date from the DVSA data, the fee deadline and how many days are left.

Every operator licence is continued every 5 years. For a goods licence the £401 continuation fee is due before the end of the month before the continuation date: for 31 July, pay by 30 June.

Example: continuation date 31 July 2031

30 Jun 2031

The goods continuation fee for a licence continued on 31 July 2031 is due by 30 June 2031.

How it works

  1. Enter the licence number. It is on the licence and on the identity disc in each specified vehicle, for example OF0218248.
  2. We read the continuation date from the newest DVSA operator licence file we hold.
  3. We work out the fee deadline: the last day of the month before the continuation date, and count the days left from today.

See every licence due in a month on the continuation calendar.

Frequently asked questions

What is an operator licence continuation date?

The date every 5 years by which the licence must be continued. It is not an expiry date: the licence carries on as long as the holder pays the continuation fee (goods) or confirms its details (PSV) in time and keeps to the licence terms.

When is the continuation fee due?

For a goods licence, the £401 fee is due before the end of the month before the continuation date. If the date is 31 July, pay by 30 June.

What happens if the continuation fee is paid late?

The licence ends automatically. Late payment is accepted only in exceptional circumstances; forgetting to pay or not receiving a reminder do not count.

Do PSV licences pay a continuation fee?

Standard and restricted PSV licences pay no continuation fee: every 5 years you confirm the licence details. A special restricted (taxi) licence pays £61.

Where does the continuation date come from?

From the DVSA operator licence data, which lists a continuation date for every licence. We read each new DVSA file and update the date here.
